WICHITA, Kan. — The Southwestern Christian University men's track & field team opened the indoor season with a strong showing at the Friends University First-Chance Qualifier on January 10, highlighted by event wins, podium finishes, and solid depth across sprints, distance, relays, and field events.
Senior Kerry Robinson led the Eagles on the track, capturing first place in the 400 meters with a time of 50.12 seconds. Freshman Jacob Magirowsky followed closely, posting a 52.16 to finish inside the top 10, while Jared Harrington added valuable points with a 54.37 effort. Robinson also anchored the Eagles' 4x400 relay, teaming up with Harrington, Scott Lynch, and Malachi Weatherly to earn a second-place finish in 3:29.98.
Weatherly delivered one of the fastest performances of the meet for SCU in the 60 meters, advancing from prelims to finals and finishing fourth overall with a time of 6.83 seconds. Scott Lynch (7.07), Jared Harrington (7.24), Daidrean Randle (7.37), and Kinyon Burge (8.12) all competed in the short sprint, showcasing depth and early-season competitiveness.
In the distance events, junior Kayden Chaparro impressed with a seventh-place finish in the mile (4:32.95) and followed it up with a runner-up performance in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 9:31.09. Magirowsky also competed in the 800 meters, gaining valuable experience early in his collegiate career.
The Eagles saw success in the field as well, as sophomore Zane Zamanski placed ninth in the shot put with a best mark of 13.49 meters (44 feet, 3.25 inches), providing a solid opening meet for the throwing group.
With multiple top-five finishes and strong performances across events, Southwestern Christian's men's team set a promising tone to begin the indoor season and will look to build on the momentum as the schedule continues.
