The 2025 NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship Meet marked a historic chapter for Southwestern Christian University (SCU), with
two standout championship performances leading the way.
Carissa Burns and the
Men's 4x400m Relay Team not only captured
National Champion titles, but each earned
All-American honors, cementing their legacies in SCU track and field history.
Carissa Burns: A Double Podium Performance
Senior sprinter
Carissa Burns delivered a stunning individual performance, and was crowned the
2025 NCCAA National Champion in the
Women's 100m Dash, stopping the clock at
12.20 seconds in a dominant display of speed and composure. Her unmatched acceleration made her untouchable as she secured SCU's first gold medal of the weekend.
Just hours later, Burns returned for the
Women's 200m Dash, finishing
2nd overall in
24.99 seconds. This performance not only earned her
All-American honors but also set a new
school record, further solidifying her reputation as one of the most accomplished sprinters in program history.
Men's 4x400m Relay Team: Champions of the Final Race
Equally breathtaking was the performance of the
Men's 4x400m Relay Team, who concluded the championship meet with an unforgettable come-from-behind victory to win and become
National Champions.
The team — made up of
Jared Harrington, CaLee Williams, Kerry Robinson, and Malachi Weatherly — surged to a gold-medal finish with a time of
3:15.64, electrifying the crowd in the final event of the meet.
Each leg of the relay contributed something special:
- Jared Harrington, a freshman, opened the race with a fearless first leg, holding off top-ranked athletes to establish early momentum.
- CaLee Williams takes the baton and explodes around the curve, passing multiple teams immediately putting the team in medal position.
- Kerry Robinson kept SCU in medal contention, unleashing a late surge to close the gap on the nation's top two teams.
- Malachi Weatherly, anchoring with heart, maintained the second position after the first curve. While another team passed on the second 100 meters, Weatherly showed patience. He maintained the third position until after the final curve. Weatherly made his move on the final straight going around the top two teams in the nation, and with the entire stadium to their feet, he made his move and with a come from behind fight to surpasses two teams, crossed the line victorious as a National Champions!
This victory not only highlighted the team's grit, chemistry, and talent — it sealed their place in SCU history as
National Champions.
Men's 4x100m Relay Team: All-American Speed
Not to be outdone, the
Men's 4x100m Relay Team of
Caden Hernandez, Kerry Robinson, Malachi Weatherly, and CaLee Williams finished
third overall in
41.51 seconds, earning
All-American honors in a fiercely competitive final.
Their success was built on clean exchanges, speed, and trust — a strong indicator of the depth of SCU's sprinting talent.
Event Highlights: Sprinting Stars and Field Event Standouts
Beyond the championship performances, SCU athletes contributed exceptional results across multiple events:
Sprinters and Jumpers:
- CaLee Williams had a packed slate with 10.94 (100m), 22.10 (200m), and an 8th-place finish in Long Jump (6.61m).
- Kerry Robinson placed 5th in the 400m (48.89), 5th in Long Jump (6.86m), and ran 22.23 in the 200m.
- Malachi Weatherly finished 8th in the 100m (10.87) and 6th in the 200m (22.09).
- Caden Hernandez contributed with a solid 11.19 in the 100m, helping secure the relay team's All-American finish.
Throwers:
- Zane Zamanski placed 5th in Discus (43.13m) and 7th in Shot Put (13.78m) while also competing in the Hammer Throw (36.31m).
- Lola Hester earned 7th in Women's Discus (37.87m), standing out in a deep field.
- Maggie Rasmussen recorded 31.32m in Discus, adding to the team's well-rounded showing in the field events.
