Stormy Conditions at UC Ferguson

8/28/2025 11:58:00 AM

Oklahoma City, OK – Southwestern Christian University men's golf team opened its 2025–26 season at the UC Ferguson Invitational this week, battling tough weather and a highly competitive field. The two-day tournament at Lincoln Park Golf Course was marked by steady rain and heavy winds, testing every team's patience and shot-making.

The Eagles finished 12th in the team standings with a +36 total, while host school Oklahoma City University captured the title at 22-under par. MidAmerica Nazarene (-20) and USAO (-18) rounded out the top three.

Individually, SCU was led by Dawson Branstetter and Coleton Calderon, who both worked through the weather to post steady rounds. Freshmen Andrea Matlega and Matthew King, along with returners Caden Stevens and Carter Jarrett, also gained valuable early-season experience against one of the deepest fields they'll see all year.

Though the Eagles didn't challenge the top of the leader board, the opening tournament gave the young squad a chance to measure themselves and shake off rust in difficult conditions.

Southwestern Christian will return to action later this fall, looking to climb the leader board as conditions improve and confidence grows.
