Southwestern Christian University has announced the hiring of former Eagles standout Faith DeSouza as the new head coach of the women's volleyball program. A familiar face within the SCU community, DeSouza steps into the role after years of excellence as both a player and a rising coach.
DeSouza enjoyed a decorated playing career at SCU, serving as a five-year starter and four-year team captain. She surpassed the 2,000-assist mark during her time as an Eagle and collected numerous honors, including the SCU Career Athlete Award (2023–24), SCU Leadership Award (2022–23), and SAC Honorable Mention (2021). Her leadership and competitive spirit made her one of the most respected athletes in the program's history.
After graduation, DeSouza transitioned into coaching, gaining experience as a graduate assistant and interim coach for SCU in fall 2025. She also developed athletes at the club and high school levels, coaching with Oklahoma Charge, Dynamite Volleyball Club (2023–25), and serving as the freshman coach at PC North High School. Her broad coaching background, combined with her deep understanding of SCU's culture, positioned her as the ideal leader for the program's next chapter.
For DeSouza, returning to SCU is an opportunity to build something meaningful both on and off the court.
"I look forward to coaching at SCU because it allows me to develop athletes competitively, academically, and spiritually while building a Christ-centered team culture," she said. "I expect my players to work hard, support one another, pursue excellence, show integrity on and off the court, and grow in faith as we honor God through our preparation, commitment, performance, and teamwork. I can't think of a better place to be other than SCU!"
DeSouza begins her tenure with strong support from the SCU community, including her fiancé, Sean Rethmeier, and the many athletes she has mentored over the years.
With her proven leadership, passion for the game, and commitment to Christ-centered development, Faith DeSouza is poised to guide Southwestern Christian volleyball into an exciting new era.
