DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Southwestern Christian University won its first competitive cheerleading championship Friday at the NCA Collegiate Cheer Championship at Ocean Center Arena.
SCU posted a score of 97.7 and edged Iowa Central (97.4) to win the Intermediate Coed Open Division national championship. Arkansas-Fort Smith, Lindenwood (Mo.) and Grand Valley State (Mich.) all finished in the top-5.
The Eagles entered Friday's final in first place after receiving a score of 97.0 in the preliminary round Thursday at the Dayton Beach Bandshell. Iowa Central, Arkansas-Fort Smith, Lindenwood and Newberry (S.C.) rounded out the top-5 in the event prelims.
