BETHANY, Okla. — Southwestern Christian University has announced the hiring of Michael Turner as the new head coach of its men's soccer program, ushering in a new era built on championship experience, player development, and a strong commitment to the university's Christ-centered mission.

Turner brings an impressive résumé as both a decorated collegiate athlete and a rising coach in Oklahoma soccer circles.

Championship Pedigree at Rogers State

Turner competed at Rogers State University, a nationally recognized NCAA Division II Top-25 program, where he established himself as one of the premier defenders in the Great American Conference (GAC).

During his collegiate career, Turner helped lead the Hillcats to:

  • Two GAC Conference Tournament Championships

  • One undefeated regular season conference championship

  • Served as Team Captain during one of the championship seasons

Individually, Turner's accolades speak for themselves:

  • 2021 GAC Defender of the Year

  • 3× GAC All-Conference First Team

  • GAC All-Tournament MVP (1×)

  • 3× GAC All-Tournament Team

  • 2× D2CCA All-Region First Team

  • 2× United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team

  • 6× GAC Defender of the Week

Known for his leadership, composure, and defensive intelligence, Turner anchored one of the conference's most consistent back lines during his time at Rogers State.

Coaching Experience Across Oklahoma

Turner quickly transitioned into coaching, building experience at both the collegiate and club levels.

His coaching background includes:

  • Assistant Coach at Oklahoma City University (2022)

  • Club Coach at Oklahoma Celtic (2022)

  • Assistant Coach at Southwestern Christian University (2025)

  • Club Coach at Sporting Oklahoma (2025–present)

His familiarity with the SCU program and the Oklahoma soccer landscape positions him well to take the reins and continue building competitive success.

A Vision Rooted in Faith and Development

Turner emphasized that his vision for the program extends beyond wins and championships.

"I'm very excited for my new role as Head Coach. I am eager for us to succeed on the field, but I also want to make sure we do a great job reflecting the school's DNA in serving the Lord. I want to make sure people leave here not only better players but also better people."

Coach Turner understands the heartbeat of our university and athletic department. Having served as an assistant, he knows our student-athletes and expectations. The continuity Coach Turner brings will be valuable in development of young men on and off the field." - Athletic Director Joe Blackwell

With championship credentials, strong recruiting ties, and a heart for mentorship, Turner steps into the role ready to elevate SCU men's soccer both competitively and culturally. The Eagles look poised to build on their foundation under new leadership as they prepare for the upcoming season.
