BETHANY, Okla. — The Southwestern Christian University men's soccer team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday afternoon, cruising to a 7-0 victory over Randall University at SCU's home field.
The Eagles controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting Randall 25-2 and putting 16 shots on target. SCU also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks while goalkeeper Axel Tricot recorded a clean sheet with one save.
SCU opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Hugo Ivarson found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. The Eagles carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The second half was an offensive showcase for the Eagles. Gabin Desplats converted a penalty kick just 39 seconds into the second half to extend the lead to 2-0. Desplats struck again from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, completing his second two-goal performance of the match and bringing his season total to five goals.
SCU continued to pile on the pressure as Lucas Ellis scored his first goal of the season in the 51st minute, with Desplats providing the assist.
The Eagles added three more goals during the final 22 minutes. Curtis Clarke scored twice, with Jorge Landeras assisting on his first goal and Hedley McGhan setting up his second. Clarke's two goals gave him five on the season.
Lucas Giacomini also found the net in the 72nd minute, scoring his second goal of the season off an assist from Ivarson.
The Eagles' offensive production was balanced throughout the lineup. SCU recorded 25 total shots, including 16 on goal, while four different players recorded multiple shots on target. Desplats led the way with four shots and three shots on goal, while Clarke registered three shots, all on target.
Defensively, SCU kept Randall from finding any rhythm. The visitors managed only two shots throughout the contest, with Tricot making the lone save needed to preserve the shutout.
With the 7-0 victory, the Eagles improve to 3-0-0 on the season, according to the match report. Randall falls to 4-1-1.
Southwestern Christian will look to carry the momentum from Tuesday night's commanding performance into its next match.
