Southwestern Christian University closed out its home schedule in strong fashion, taking three of four games from Nelson University (Texas) in a competitive and emotional final series in Bethany.
The Eagles combined timely hitting, clutch pitching, and late-game execution to secure the series win, highlighted by walk-off heroics and dominant performances in the circle.
Game 1: SCU 5, Nelson 2
SCU opened the series with a dramatic finish, walking off Nelson in the seventh inning. After trailing 2-0 early, the Eagles chipped away with single runs in the third and fifth to tie the game.
The breakthrough came in the bottom of the seventh when Trinity Norwood delivered the biggest swing of the day—a three-run walk-off home run to left center that sealed the 5-2 victory. Norwood finished with three hits and four RBIs in a dominant performance at the plate.
In the circle, Macey Weger was outstanding, throwing a complete game and allowing just two runs on four hits to earn the win.
Game 2: SCU 6, Nelson 0
The Eagles followed up with a complete performance in game two, shutting out Nelson behind a strong pitching effort and balanced offense.
Jessica Czikra tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits while keeping Nelson off the scoreboard.
Offensively, SCU manufactured runs throughout the game, scoring in the third and fourth innings before breaking things open with a four-run sixth. Hannah Keele and Ebony Garza each drove in two runs, while Raynie Tom added an RBI to help lead the attack.
Game 3: SCU 7, Nelson 6 (9 innings)
Game three was the most dramatic of the series, going into extra innings before SCU secured a walk-off win.
The Eagles jumped out early with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Jessie Moralez. However, Nelson battled back to take a 6-4 lead heading into the later innings.
SCU responded with a run in the sixth and tied the game in the seventh, forcing extras. After a scoreless eighth and top of the ninth, the Eagles delivered once again in the clutch. Alexis Underwood drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to complete the 7-6 victory.
Macey Weger earned the win in relief, shutting down Nelson over the final innings to give SCU a chance to rally.
Game 4: Nelson 7, SCU 6
In the series finale, SCU fought hard but came up just short in a back-and-forth battle.
After a scoreless start, the Eagles broke through with three runs in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth, including a two-run home run from Trinity Norwood to tie the game at 6-6.
Nelson responded with a run in the sixth that proved to be the difference, holding off SCU in the final innings to take the 7-6 win.
Despite the loss, SCU totaled 10 hits, with Hannah Keele, Raynie Tom, and others contributing strong offensive performances.
