OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Southwestern Christian University (SCU) softball faced a tough test over the weekend, squaring off against powerhouse Oklahoma City in a four-game SAC series. Despite competitive stretches and strong individual performances, SCU came up short in all four contests, falling to 27-19 overall and 18-18 in conference play.
Game 1: Early Momentum Slips Away
SCU struck first in the opener, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first behind an RBI double from Trinity Norwood. However, Oklahoma City responded quickly and broke the game open with a six-run third inning.
The Eagles showed resilience, highlighted by a two-run home run from Sabrina Gilbert in the fourth inning, but couldn't recover from the early deficit, falling 10-5. Hannah Keele led the offense with two hits and two runs scored.
Game 2: Competitive Battle Falls Short
SCU once again got on the board early in game two, with Hannah Keele stealing home in the first inning. The Eagles tied the game in the third on an RBI single from Ebony Garza, but Oklahoma City used a three-run fourth inning to regain control.
SCU tallied nine hits in the game, including three from Keele, but stranded key runners late and fell 6-3.
Game 3: Pitchers Duel Turns Late
Game three remained tight through five innings, with Oklahoma City holding a narrow lead. SCU broke through in the sixth inning with RBI production from Jasmine Olivas to cut the deficit to two.
However, Oklahoma City answered in the bottom half of the inning, extending the lead and securing a 6-2 victory. Kylee Coy paced SCU offensively with two hits.
Game 4: Eagles Nearly Pull Off Upset
The series finale saw SCU deliver its strongest performance. The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead, highlighted by a two-run home run from Trinity Norwood and consistent offensive pressure early.
SCU held the lead into the fifth inning before Oklahoma City erupted for five runs to take a 5-4 advantage. Despite putting runners in scoring position in the seventh, SCU was unable to complete the comeback, falling just short.
