The Southwestern Christian University baseball team battled throughout a three-game series against Texas Wesleyan University, but the Eagles came up short in each contest as the Rams completed the sweep in Bethany over the weekend. Texas Wesleyan used timely hitting and late offensive surges to take the games 13–6, 9–2, and 13–2.
Game 1: Late Inning Surge Lifts Rams, 13–6
Southwestern Christian jumped out to an early advantage in the opening game, scoring four runs across the second and third innings. A triple from Elvis Rojas followed by RBI singles from Braden Browning and Eliam Dudamel helped give SCU a 2–0 lead, and the Eagles extended the margin to 4–0 in the third after Rojas and Browning again drove in runs.
Texas Wesleyan answered in the fourth with two runs before a big fifth inning flipped the momentum. The Rams launched three home runs in the frame to score four runs and take a 6–4 lead.
SCU fought back to tie the game at 6–6 in the sixth after an error allowed a run to score, but the Rams erupted in the eighth inning with seven runs to pull away for the 13–6 victory.
The Eagles recorded 13 hits in the game, with Dudamel and Royce Florenzano collecting two hits each while Browning drove in two runs.
Game 2: Rams Build Early Lead in 9–2 Decision
In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Texas Wesleyan struck early with a four-run second inning to seize control. The Rams added three more runs in the fourth to stretch the lead to 7–0.
SCU struggled to generate offense against Rams starter Samuel Mendez, who held the Eagles scoreless through five innings. Southwestern Christian broke through in the seventh when James Folsom doubled and Royce Florenzano followed with a two-run home run to left field.
Despite the late rally, the Eagles could not close the gap as Texas Wesleyan secured the 9–2 win. SCU finished with seven hits, led by Florenzano's homer and Aiden O'Malley's base hit.
Game 3: Texas Wesleyan Completes Sweep
The Rams continued their offensive momentum in Sunday's finale, scoring four runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Texas Wesleyan steadily added to its advantage before a seven-run ninth inning put the game out of reach.
Southwestern Christian managed two runs in the contest. The Eagles plated their first in the fifth when Aiden O'Malley drove in Bryan Melo, and added another in the eighth after Dominic Ornelas tripled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Elvis Rojas.
SCU was limited to four hits in the finale while the Rams totaled 17 hits in the 13–2 victory.
Series Summary
Despite strong stretches early in the series and several multi-hit performances, Southwestern Christian was unable to slow down the Rams' offense. Texas Wesleyan combined for 35 runs and 40 hits across the three games, including multiple home runs and big late-inning rallies that proved decisive.
The Eagles will look to regroup as they continue their season following the challenging conference series in Bethany.
