Southwestern Christian University baseball opened the Battle of the Hills Tournament with a split on Friday, earning a shutout win over Kansas Christian College before falling to Tabor College later in the day.
Game 1: SCU 2, Kansas Christian 0
The Eagles started tournament play with a strong pitching performance, defeating Kansas Christian College 2–0. M. Duarte was outstanding on the mound, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits and striking out six to secure the win.
Southwestern Christian scored both runs in the bottom of the first inning. After N. Anderson and R. Florenzan reached base, A. O'Malley delivered a two-run single to left field to give the Eagles an early advantage.
SCU's defense was sharp throughout the game, turning a double play and limiting Kansas Christian's opportunities as the Eagles held on for the shutout victory.

In the nightcap, Southwestern Christian fell 12–1 to Tabor College. The Eagles struck first in the second inning when A. O'Malley hit a solo home run, accounting for SCU's lone run of the game.
Tabor answered with consistent offense, scoring in five different innings to pull away. Southwestern Christian recorded four hits, including base hits from D. Paredes, E. Rojas, and B. Melo, but was unable to generate sustained offense against Tabor pitching.
