Eagles Split Day Two of Battle of the Hills Tournament

BRANSON, Mo. — Southwestern Christian University baseball split its games on Saturday during Day Two of the Battle of the Hills Tournament, opening the day with a dominant win over Briar Cliff (Iowa) before closing the night with a loss to Mission University.

Game 1: SCU 22, Briar Cliff (IA) 5

The Eagles opened the day with an offensive explosion, rolling past Briar Cliff 22–5 behind a relentless attack at the plate.

Southwestern Christian set the tone early, scoring nine runs in the first inning while sending 14 batters to the plate. The Eagles continued to apply pressure throughout the game, scoring in six of the seven innings and finishing with 21 hits.

R. Florenzan led the Eagles offensively, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs, and five runs scored. D. Ornelas added a big day as well, finishing 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. N. Anderson reached base six times, scored four runs, and drove in two, while P. Nelson contributed three hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, F. Morel earned the win, striking out eight over five innings, while B. Tucker closed the game with two scoreless innings. The Eagles played clean defense, committing no errors in the victory.

Game 2: Mission University 4, SCU 1

In the nightcap, Southwestern Christian was unable to complete the sweep, falling 4–1 to Mission University. Mission jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run.

The Eagles responded in the fourth inning when B. Melo delivered an RBI single to center field, scoring E. Rojas for SCU's lone run of the game.

SCU's starting pitcher settled in after the opening frame, turning in a complete-game effort and keeping Mission off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest. Defensively, the Eagles turned a double play and worked to limit further damage after the early surge.
