Late Surge Falls Short as SCU Women Drop Road Contest at Central Christian

McPHERSON, Kan. — The Southwestern Christian University women's basketball team battled throughout all four quarters but came up just short in a 71–64 loss to Central Christian College on Thursday evening in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

SCU opened the night with confidence, jumping out to a 20–18 lead after the first quarter behind an aggressive offensive start. The Eagles struggled to maintain momentum in the second period, managing just nine points, allowing Central Christian to edge ahead at halftime, 29–29.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Central Christian caught fire from beyond the arc, stretching its lead with timely three-point shooting. Despite the run, Southwestern Christian stayed within striking distance thanks to consistent scoring in the paint and strong free-throw shooting.

Senior Kaydrin Scott delivered a standout performance, pouring in a game-high 35 points on 14-of-27 shooting while adding nine rebounds, anchoring the Eagles on both ends of the floor. Shak Gladness provided a spark off the bench with seven points, six rebounds, and five blocks, helping SCU stay competitive defensively.

Entering the fourth quarter trailing by two, SCU continued to fight. Scott scored repeatedly inside to keep the Eagles close, cutting the deficit to four points late. However, Central Christian responded with another barrage of three-pointers down the stretch to seal the victory.

Southwestern Christian finished the game shooting 36.8 percent from the field and went 17-of-23 from the free-throw line. The Eagles were out-rebounded 47–32 and surrendered 23 bench points, key factors in the final outcome.
