Southwestern Christian women's soccer continued its unbeaten start to the season Thursday with a 3–1 victory over Our Lady of the Lake at home in Bethany. The Eagles improved to 4-0-1 with the win, while the Saints dropped to 2-2-1.
The Eagles came out firing and struck almost immediately. Just two minutes into the match, Abbigail Johnson found the back of the net off assists from Sofia Jimenez and Riley Stanfill, giving SCU a dream start. At the 31st minute, Shosona Graham doubled the lead with a clean finish on a pass from Rachel Foster to send Southwestern Christian into halftime with a 2–0 advantage.
In the second half, the Eagles tightened up defensively as OLLU pushed forward. SCU eventually put the match out of reach in the 81st minute when Sofia Ovando buried a penalty kick to make it 3–0. The Saints managed to break through in the final minutes, with Grace Reed scoring in the 89th, but the Eagles comfortably saw out the win.
While OLLU held the edge in shots, firing 20 attempts to SCU's 7, goalkeeper Lorelai Puglisi anchored the Eagles' back line with nine saves to preserve the result. Southwestern Christian's efficiency in front of goal proved to be the difference, with three goals coming on just four shots on frame.
The victory highlighted both the Eagles' quick-strike ability and their defensive resilience under pressure. With momentum building, Southwestern Christian will look to extend its unbeaten run as the season continues.
