ATCHISON, Kan. — Southwestern Christian women's basketball kept its perfect start alive with a gritty 61-58 victory over Missouri Valley on Friday afternoon at the Benedictine College Classic.

The Eagles (3-0) built a steady lead through the first three quarters before holding off a furious fourth-quarter rally from the Vikings (1-1) to secure the three-point win.

Kaydrin Scott powered SCU with a near double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds while shooting 7-for-14 from the field. Chrissen Harland added 14 points and four rebounds, and Jayden Mason chipped in nine points, including a clutch pair of free throws in the closing minute. Alexus Roberson also contributed nine points and three boards.

Southwestern Christian held a 42-37 lead heading into the final period and extended it to nine midway through the fourth before Missouri Valley stormed back behind the hot shooting of Jessica Reeter, who hit four three-pointers and finished with 15 points. The Vikings pulled within one with 10 seconds left, but a free throw by Shak Gladness with eight seconds remaining sealed the win for the Eagles.

Despite shooting just 30 percent from the field, SCU made up ground with hustle, forcing 28 turnovers and converting them into 21 points. The Eagles also dominated the offensive glass, pulling down 16 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points.

Southwestern Christian will continue play at the Benedictine Classic on Saturday as they look to keep their unbeaten record intact.
