ATCHISON, Kan. — Southwestern Christian University women's basketball came up short in its final non-conference game of the season, falling 74-68 to Benedictine College on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles (3-1) started strong, jumping out to an early 16-11 lead after the first quarter, but Benedictine's hot shooting in the second period shifted momentum as SCU trailed 35-32 at halftime.
Kaydrin Scott led the Eagles with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, adding seven rebounds and a block. Jayden Mason recorded 18 points, eight rebounds, and an impressive eight steals to keep SCU in the fight. Shak Gladness also made a major impact off the bench with 10 points and eight rebounds, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Despite SCU's efficient 91% shooting from the foul line, Benedictine's balanced offense and 49% shooting from the field proved to be the difference down the stretch. The Lady Eagles were outscored 17-10 in the fourth quarter as the Ravens pulled away late.
Southwestern Christian now turns its attention to conference play, looking to build on a strong non-conference showing as the season continues.
