Southwestern Christian delivered a signature performance on Thursday night, knocking off previously unbeaten Mid-America Christian 75–72 in Bethany. The upset victory marks SCU's first win over MACU since 2023, snapping a multi-season drought and giving the Eagles a major early-season statement.
The Eagles trailed 40–36 at halftime but surged in the second half, outscoring the Evangels 39–32 behind tough defense and clutch play making. SCU shot an efficient 47% from the field and dominated the paint with 44 points inside.
JaColby Williams led the way with 14 points, hitting three big three-pointers and delivering late-game free throws to help SCU take control. Jordun Willard came off the bench with a massive 14-point, 9-rebound night, providing the inside presence SCU needed. Elijah Garcia added another 14 points, giving the Eagles three players in double figures.
The closing minute featured one clutch play after another. With SCU holding a one-point lead, Willard and Williams hit key free throws before Aiden Todd sealed the upset with a fast break layup at the buzzer, pushing the Eagles ahead by three.
Southwestern Christian now rises to 3–2 overall and 1–1 in SAC play, but more importantly, the Eagles proved they can go toe-to-toe with one of the conference's top programs. Thursday's win could be a turning point as SCU continues building momentum into the heart of the season.
