Southwestern Christian University women's volleyball faced a tough road test Friday night, falling in straight sets (11–25, 21–25, 9–25) to a strong Nelson University squad in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
After a slow start in the first set, the Lady Eagles responded with energy in the second, staying within striking distance before the hosts closed it out late.
Margarita Vargas led SCU offensively with seven kills and a .227 hitting percentage, while Brianna DeVries added five kills and two service aces. Megan Graham tallied 12 assists and hit an efficient .400, while Kyah Jackson added two kills, one ace, and a solo block.
Defensively, Lisa Gomez posted a team-high 12 digs, and Alejandra Acuña added eight from the back row.
Despite the loss, the Lady Eagles showed stretches of strong play, particularly in the second set, hitting a match-best .300 as a team.
With the result, Southwestern Christian dropped to 1–20 overall and 1–16 in SAC play, while Nelson improved to 16–9 (14–2 SAC). SCU will look to regroup as they return home for their next conference matchup.
