BETHANY, Okla. — Southwestern Christian University men's soccer played to another tight 1–1 draw Tuesday against Central Christian College of Kansas in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles grabbed the lead in the 62nd minute when Sergio Alvarez scored off an assist from Shonosuke Suzuki. The goal marked Alvarez's second of the season and appeared to give SCU the momentum it needed to close out the match.
However, Central Christian found the equalizer late in the 87th minute as Genis Alcaide scored to tie the game 1–1, and neither team could break through in the closing minutes.
SCU outshot Central Christian 11–3 and held a 4–0 advantage in corner kicks. Alvarez led the Eagles with two shots on goal, while Yuki Yabunaka, Vinicius Cruz, and Augustine Mateos each added one. Goalkeeper Enzo Camps went the distance but wasn't tested, as Central Christian's lone shot on target found the net.
The result moves Southwestern Christian to 7-4-6 overall and 2-3-5 in SAC play. The Eagles will close out their regular season with one final conference match later this week.
