SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — Southwestern Christian University men's soccer fought back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2–2 draw against John Brown University on Tuesday night at Alumni Field.
After trailing 2–0 at halftime, the Eagles (8-3-2, 3-2-1 SAC) stormed back in the second half with goals from Victor Lucca and Augustine Mateos to secure an impressive road result in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
John Brown opened the scoring early, with Kendal Madrigal finding the net in the 12th minute off an assist from Marcos Miranda. Miranda doubled the lead himself in the 37th, putting SCU in a tough spot heading into the break.
Southwestern Christian responded with determination after halftime. Freshman forward Victor Lucca cut the deficit in half in the 69th minute with his first collegiate goal, assisted by Gabin Desplats. Then, with just under three minutes left in regulation, Augustine Mateos scored the equalizer — his seventh of the season — with help from Mathias Fasoli and Desplats.
Goalkeeper Enzo Camps made three saves to keep SCU within reach, while the back line tightened up in the second half to hold John Brown scoreless over the final 45 minutes. The Eagles' intensity also drew several yellow cards as the match grew physical, but the effort paid off as they walked away with a valuable point.
The draw keeps Southwestern Christian in the middle of the SAC standings as the postseason approaches. The Eagles will look to build on the comeback when they return home for their next conference matchup.
