BETHANY, Okla. — The Southwestern Christian University women's soccer team made history Saturday afternoon, defeating crosstown rival Mid-America Christian University for the first time in program history with a 2–0 victory.
In a highly anticipated rivalry matchup, Abbigail Johnson delivered both goals for the Lady Eagles, including one from the penalty spot, to lift SCU to a statement win. Johnson's first goal came in the 61st minute off an assist from Sofia Jimenez, who played a perfectly timed ball into the box. Just five minutes later, Johnson calmly converted a penalty kick to double the lead and seal the win.
Goalkeeper Lorelai Puglisi turned in another outstanding performance, recording seven saves to secure her second straight shutout. SCU's defense held strong against a relentless MACU attack that fired 24 total shots but couldn't find the net.
With the win, Southwestern Christian improved to 10-2-1 overall and 3-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, while earning long-awaited bragging rights in the city rivalry.
