SCU begins series in Dallas, sets school record

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dallas, Texas - Southwestern Christian University took a trip to Texas today four a doubleheader against Dallas Christian College. Game 1 saw a close finish, but Game 2 was a blowout for SCU.

Game 1

Korey Aytes would get the win on the mound to start the four game series against DCC, throwing three innings behind starter Frangely Morel. Morel struck out nine, allowed six hits, and gave up two runs, while Aytes struck out three, gave up two hits, and allowed no runs. Offensively, the Eagles were quiet until the 4th inning when Jhors Gomez knocked in SCU's first run, and later scored himself. The Crusaders would tie the game back up at 2 in the next inning, but with Gomez once again on base thanks to a 2-2 day at the plate (with a HBP), Joseph Boone would score the eventual game-winning run in the top of the 6th.

Game 2

Six home runs from the Eagles lineup led SCU past the Crusaders in Game 2 today, with each homer coming from a unique batter as well. Led by Dario Paredes' six RBIs on a 4-7 day (with one of the home runs), SCU set a school record for most runs scored in one game with 31 runs. 12 Eagles had RBIs, including Kyler Ayres (3-3, 5 RBIs), Gregory Berroa (5-7, 4 RBIs), Matys Gagnon (2-4, 3 RBIs), and Elvis Rojas (4-5, 3 RBIs). Berroa would finish with 4 doubles and a stolen base, and Ayres would also grab a double and a walk. Many other batters got in on the scoring, but for the Eagles' pitching staff, Zach Gaudreau got the win after throwing 4 full innings, while Anthony Wilson and Tyler Stelly came out of the pen behind the starting lefty. Gaudreau allowed three runs on three hits as the Eagles dominated the Crusaders in the final game of the day.

SCU will return to action on the 1st of February for two more games against Dallas Christian. Game 3 of the weekend will begin at 12 PM, noon.
