The Southwestern Christian University Eagles took the opening game in this weekend's matchup against Oklahoma City University in a thrilling exhibition.
Â
Game 1: SCU 8 - 7 OCU
Â
SCU got on the board early when Dario Paredes, Drake Sparks, and Jake Cox all picked up an RBI in the first two innings. Despite the three-run lead, the Stars would battle back against SCU's starter Mozart Duarte in the middle innings to grab a 4-3 lead in the sixth before Matt Gamblin shut down the Stars and got SCU out of a bases-loaded jam. A 2-RBI single for Matys Gagnon would put the pressure back on the Stars in the seventh, but again OCU found an answer, this time against Zach Gaudreau, tying the game at five in the bottom half of the inning. The Eagles would get one last offensive push from Jhors Gomez who smacked a major 3-RBI double to put the Eagles up by three in the eighth inning. Down to their final two chances, the Stars could not overcome Gaudreau and the SCU defense, as the Eagles secured the opening win 8 to 7. Gamblin would receive the win, while Gaudreau would complete the save.
