SCU defeated by Wayland Baptist

Bethany, Okla.

Southwestern Christian University lost to Wayland Baptist University at home this week, dropping three straight in the Sooner Athletic Conference matchup.

Game 1: SCU 0 - 10 WBU

SCU struggled in the opening nine of the series, only finding three hits on the day and giving up eight hits. Braden Browning led the team in hits with two, and Tyler Reeves grabbed the last hit, while a multitude of both Eagles and Pioneers had walks. Mozart Duarte managed to strike out six but gave up five runs and four hits as he took the loss.

Top Performers:

Mozart Duarte: 3.0 IP, 6 SO, 4 H, 5 R

Alexis Hurens: 2.0 IP, 1 SO, 3 H, 2 R

Braden Browning: 2-4

Tyler Reeves: 1-3

Game 2: SCU 6 - 7 WBU

Game two started much better than Game 1, as Draike Sparks led off a five-run inning with a solo home run. Dario Paredes, Joseph Boone, and Jake Cox would all pick up RBIs before the SCU offense went quiet for the rest of the game. Wayland Baptist battled back and grabbed a two-run lead when, in the seventh inning, a solo home run from Matys Gagnon brought the game back within one. Unfortunately, it was too little too late for the Eagles, and with two outs already on the board, they could not complete the late-inning comeback.

Top Performers:

Henry Ogando: 7.0 IP, 8 H, 7 SO, 7 R

Draike Sparks: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, HR

Dario Paredes 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 R, 2B

Jake Cox: 2-2, 1 BB, 1 RBI

Joseph Boone: 1-4, 2 RBI, 1 R

Matys Gagnon: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 R, HR

Game 3: SCU 3 - 5 WBU

In the final game, Wayland Baptist got on the board first, scoring two runs before SCU could muster their first off an RBI single from Joseph Boone in the fourth inning. The Pioneers would put three more on the board after the fourth, and a Tyler Reeves RBI single that tacked on another run in the seventh was all SCU could manage as far as runs go, although the lineup produced seven hits in the contest.

Top Performers:

Gabriel Figueroa: 6.0 IP, 9 H, 5 SO, 5 R

Zach Gaudreau: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 SO, 0 R
