Bethany, Okla. - Southwestern Christian University rode the momentum of their win yesterday into a game against the Langston University Lions. Although the match went the full five sets in a back-and-forth competition, SCU never gave up, and eventually came out of the contest victorious for a win on Senior Day.
Langston stole away the win in Set 1, but the Eagles quickly answered in Set 2. Things started to look dire after the Lions won Set 3, but the Eagles stood their ground, going on a 7-0 run to begin the fourth set, never relinquishing the lead for the rest of the match.
Paige McGee slammed 19 kills and posted a .405 hit% in an astounding performance, backed up by offensive staples
Alondra Esparza and
Brianna DeVries, who notched 12 and 11 kills respectively. Esparza successfully blocked two balls, while DeVries served four aces.
Megan Graham had 17 assists and 18 digs, while
Faith DeSouza finished with 28 assists and an ace of her own. The entire Eagles staff came to play today, as many players finished with 3 or more kills or 9 or more digs. Neveah Ramsay's 4 kills and 3 block assists, for example, were key for the Eagles in keeping up with a Lions team that finished with less errors than the Eagles.
