Bethany, Okla. - Game One of the Sooner Athletic Conference matchup between the Southwestern University Eagles and the University of Science and Arts Drovers was a close competition, with a final score of 9-5.
Â
A solo home run by Jhors Gomez kicked off the scoring in the first, but USAO would fire back with a solo shot of their own in the second. In the third inning, the Eagles offense notched four runs on a sacrifice fly from Phoenix Nelson, an RBI double by Zane Bandfield, and a two-RBI single by Jake Cox. Another solo home run by Braden Browning in the fourth extended the SCU lead to five before a 2-RBI single by USAO brought it back to a three-run game. Browning would pick up another RBI in the seventh with a single, following Nelson scoring on a USAO error and a Joseph Boone sacrifice fly scratching across another run. USAO went down swinging in the ninth, picking up two more runs with a double, before finally being shut down by the Eagles defense.
