Fayette,MO.-- Southwestern Christian(0-1) women's soccer team dropped its first road game of the 2022 season to powerhouse #3 Central Methodist(1-0), the SCU Eagles fell to CMU 4-0.
SCU Defense was stout in the First half proving how hard it would be to penetrate the back line for this coming season and
Celeste Lucio also having a great half of her own, especially on a great save on a PK in the first five minutes of the match. The Defense of the SCU Eagles would prove resilient throughout the half as they forced many tough and bad shots on CMU. Central Methodist shot 11 times, only 3 of those gave Lucio any trouble. In the 18th minute the SCU Eagles after playing defense for the last 17 would get on the counter attack and from about 28 yards out
Mckinley Lee would put up one of two SCU shot attempts, but it would not trouble the CMU keeper to much. Nearing the end of the 1st half, just 30 seconds before Half-time Central Methodist would score the first goal of the game from 10 yards out just under the legs of Lucio to give CMU a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Central Methodist put their foot on gas pedal starting the second half, In the 53rd minute CMU would add a second goal to give themselves a 2-0 lead and in the 59th minute CMU would tally another goal and make it 3-0. The Eagles of Central would add one more goal in the 77th minute to bring their lead up to 4-0, but the score does not reflect stout defense that SCU played. Early in the Second half while it was still 1-0, one of SCU starting Center backs
Chrissy Mitchell would go down with an apparent leg injury and that gave CMU enough of a crack to squeeze through a couple of goals before her eventual reentry after the third CMU Goal. In the 66th minute
Riley Stanfill would get a shot off on the stout CMU defense that features two All-American Center Backs, but was just to high to trouble the CMU keeper.
The Eagles will return the action on the road on August 31st as they will face off against LSU-Shreveport at 2 pm in Shreveport,LA.
