SCU Splits with Kansas Wesleyan

Salina, Kan.—Southwestern Christian (3-1) split doubleheader games against Kansas Wesleyan (3-4) after the cancellation against University of the Southwest (N.M) because of snow.
 

Game 1

Southwestern Christian dropped the first game against Kansas Wesleyan 9-5. The game was scoreless until the third inning when SCU scored 3 runs off of a couple of errors by KWU and multiple hits by SCU. KWU scored in the forth inning when J.Gable hit a homer over the center field fence. Kansas took the lead in the fifth inning when they combined with multiple hits and had a couple of hitters walk. SCU tied the ballgame when Parker Henderson scored on a pass ball in the seventh inning. In the bottom of the eighth inning KWU had the bases loaded when R.Bishop hit a grand slam to increase the score to 9-5.

Gabriel Figueroa took the bump for the Eagles and notched 4 innings, including 7 strikeouts in the effort. He would get the no decision on this game. He only gave up 1 run on 3 hits facing 16 batters.

Mitchell Bryant led the Eagles with 4 hits during the first game and scoring 1 run. Jabes Turner and Parker Henderson were the only players with hits during this game. SCU struggled during the first game with strikeouts having 13 combined.

Game 2

Southwestern Christian got the offense rolling again in game two. They banged out 14 hits on the way to a 8-1 win over Kansas Wesleyan.

SCU jumped out in front in the first inning after a single up the middle by Freilin Cabrera scoring Mitchell Bryant.

SCU would score 3 more runs in the 3rd inning after Nick Smith blasted a two-run home run over the Center field wall. It was his first home run this season. In the fifth inning Jabes Turner would homer over the right field fence. The final runs would come from Jhors Gomez when he homered over the right field fence scoring Nick Smith and Freilin Cabrera.

The only run in the game for Kansas Wesleyan came in the 7th inning when D.Fisher doubled and A.Gardner scored.

Freilin Cabrera and Jhors Gomez led the Eagles in the game both having three hits. Gomez had 3 RBI's on 5 at bats, while Cabrera had 1 RBI on 5 at bats. Once again the Eagles had 10 plus Strikeouts.

Nick Smith helped the Eagles on the mound pitching 4 innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 7. Jesus Valloy relieved him pitching 3 innings allowing 3 hits and giving up 1 run.
