Bethany,OK.--Southwestern Christian(3-2-1, 1-0-1 SAC) notches their first conference win against a very good Texas Wesleyan(7-3, 0-2 SAC) team who not even two weeks earlier beat the Eagles, three to one in a special non-conference game. Eagles get revenge in earlier loss and start conference play on a good note winning 1-nil.
The Eagles and Rams were deadlocked in the first half, both teams putting up six shots a piece, Both Keepers put on a quality performance for the match, We would go into the break with a nil nil game, with a lot anxiety for the second half. In the 50th minute Kodai Tenaka would put on a display of fancy footwork around the 22 yard box get by a Rams defender and from about 24 yards puts up a beautiful finesse shot and put enough curve on the shot to score in the top right bin to give the Eagles a one-nil lead with 40 minutes remaining. The SCU Eagles defense and Keeper showed some real quality on the pitch and forced the Rams to take tough shots and tough crosses that gave Salvatore Della Vella no trouble in making saves. The Eagles would win the game on a 1-0 quality showing and second clean sheet of the season.
The Eagles would have a +2 advantage on shots (11-9 SCU) but the Rams would have the +1 advantage of shots on Goal (7-6 TWU). SCU would have the advantage in corner kicks (4-3 SCU). The Eagles would have 20 fouls called against them, the aggressive play is good, but it is probably something the SCU coaching staff will work on with the team before their next contest. Salvatore Della Vella would make 7 saves on the game and picks up his second clean sheet.
Southwestern Christian returns to action at Home in Bethany,OK on Cagle Family Field on October 4th at 3:00pm against John Brown for more Sooner Athletic Conference action.
