BETHANY, Okla. -- Southwestern Christian(3-2-2, 1-0-2 SAC) lands a 2-2 Drag against a very good and Undefeated John Brown(6-0-3, 3-0-1 SAC) with a last-second miraculous equalizer.
Teejay Chiororo gave the hosts a quick 1-0 lead just four minutes into the contest, but two John Brown goals in an eight-minute span switched the momentum. JBU scored an Equalizer to level the match at one apiece, when a volley was re-directed off a free kick and it got past SCU keeper Della Vella in the 30th minute Eight minutes later, off a corner, from the right side of the pitch, John Brown headed in a Goal that just barely crossed the goal line to give JBU a 2-1 lead going into the Break. In the 71st minute, the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick, but Chiororo couldn't claim his second of the match as his attempt skimmed the outside of the right post and out of play.
After a late substitution stopped the clock with under 30 seconds remaining, the Golden Eagles worked possession in the offensive third, successfully whittling the clock. However, after losing possession over the touch line, John Brown had to quickly respond to an SCU throw-in into the middle of the pitch. With the 10 second countdown commencing, it seemed it would take a miracle for SCU to traverse the length of the pitch and force a draw with so little time. Southwestern Christian did just that as a long kick downfield by Sanele Mdingi skimmed off a defenders head and shot through the back line, springing Jason Hogan with only JBU Keeper left between him and a miraculous Equalizer. Hogan, holding off a defender behind him, one-touched a lob past the JBU Keeper with two seconds left in the match to give SCU the Draw and to keep the unbeaten streak alive
Southwestern Christian held the advantage in shots, 15-8, and earned six corners in comparison to JBU's pair. JBU Keeper made five saves on seven chances. Salvatore Della Vella made three saves on five John Brown shots on goal.
Southwestern Christian returns to action on the Road in Waxahachie, TX on October 8th at 6:00pm against Southwestern Assemblies of God(SAGU) for more Sooner Athletic Conference action.
