Rick McCormick begins his second season as Director of Athletic Services and Associate Head Basketball Coach. McCormick came onboard at SCU shortly after the announcement of Dave Bliss as the Head Coach. McCormick assisted Bliss in putting together the NCCAA Division I National Championship finals run. SCU posted the best record in school history as an NAIA member Institution.
As Director of Athletic Services McCormick works closely with Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Mark Arthur, in all areas of the overall growth and management of the athletic department. McCormick also works in enrollment management and student recruitment.
As Associate Head Basketball Coach, McCormick serves as a special consultant and advisor to SCU head coach Dave Bliss on all day to day aspects of the basketball program and serves with Bliss in all on the court coaching endeavors. McCormick also heads up all SCU recruiting efforts.
A well-respected college basketball coach and administrator, McCormick has served a total of 28 seasons in college and professional basketball. He also spent several seasons in athletic and educational administration, including serving as athletic director at the NJCAA level. McCormick has served as head basketball coach at the junior college, NAIA, NCAA division II and professional levels of basketball. He has also been an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the NCAA Division I level of play.
Some of his more notable accomplishments include an NJCAA national championship while at Cedar Valley (Texas) in 2001. McCormick also developed Union University into an NAIA powerhouse in the 1990s, leading them to their first NAIA Tournament in 34 years, during the 1992 season.
McCormick has been honored on numerous occasions for his work: he was named NJCAA national coach of the year in 2001. Additionally, he has been named conference coach of the year in three different collegiate conferences. McCormick has amassed over 300 wins while serving as a head coach.
In recent seasons, McCormick has been owner and head coach of Southwest Hoops Basketball, where he operated a junior college scouting and recruiting service.
McCormick is married to Marie and has a daughter, Aundrea, who has been a head basketball coach and teacher at both the high school and college levels.
