POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. / SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — The Southwestern Christian University volleyball team competed in a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference matchups over the weekend, facing College of the Ozarks on Friday before traveling to John Brown University on Saturday.
The Eagles battled College of the Ozarks to four sets Friday evening at Keeter Gym, ultimately falling 3-1. SCU dropped the first two sets 25-20 and 25-16 before responding with a strong 25-19 third-set victory. The Eagles were unable to complete the comeback, falling 25-15 in the fourth set.
Despite the loss, SCU saw several strong individual performances. Emery Hulme led the Eagles with 10 kills and added three block assists for 12.5 points. Angeles Betancourt Tejada and Jovana Perovic each recorded seven kills, while Sara Castrillon added four kills and five block assists.
Defensively, Ana Flavia Turone led SCU with 21 digs, while Emma Hall recorded 19 digs. Mercedes Ewing contributed four kills, and Dani Campbell added three kills along with four block assists.
The Eagles then traveled to Siloam Springs on Saturday for a matchup with John Brown. SCU battled throughout the three-set contest but ultimately fell 3-0, with John Brown taking the sets 25-12, 29-27 and 25-22.
SCU showed its competitiveness in the final two sets, pushing John Brown beyond 25 points in the second set and battling to within three points in the third.
Mercedes Ewing led the Eagles offensively against John Brown with 10 kills, while Sara Castrillon recorded eight kills on an efficient .500 hitting percentage. Emery Hulme added five kills and four block assists, while Shelby Christopher contributed two kills off the bench.
The Eagles also received a strong defensive effort from Ana Flavia Turone, who finished with 17 digs. Ava Burns recorded 12 digs and added 13 assists, while Alejandra Acuna contributed 13 digs.
SCU finished the weekend with a 2-2 overall record and 0-2 mark in SAC play.
The Eagles will look to bounce back as they continue their 2026 season and SAC schedule.
