BETHANY, Okla. — The Southwestern Christian University women's volleyball team faced a pair of tough opponents over the weekend, battling Texas Wesleyan University on Friday before facing undefeated Nelson University on Saturday at Pickens-Springer Gymnasium.

Texas Wesleyan Takes Four-Set Battle

SCU opened the weekend Friday evening against Texas Wesleyan, falling 3-1 by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-16.

The Eagles battled throughout the match, earning a third-set victory to extend the contest to four sets. SCU recorded 45 kills in the match and finished with 41 assists and eight service aces.

Emery Hulme and Jovana Perovic led the Eagles offensively with nine kills apiece. Karen Jimenez added seven kills, while Sara Castrillon recorded seven kills and hit .200 for the match.

Emma Hall paced the offense with 19 assists, while Ana Turone recorded a team-high 22 digs. Hulme also contributed nine kills and 10 digs, while Perovic finished with nine kills.

Texas Wesleyan finished the match with 43 kills and a .156 hitting percentage compared to SCU's 45 kills and .067 hitting percentage.

Nelson Sweeps Eagles

SCU returned to action Saturday afternoon against Nelson University, which entered the match with a 6-0 conference record. Nelson earned a 3-0 victory, taking the sets 25-8, 25-11 and 25-11.

The Eagles finished the match with 17 kills and 16 assists. Dani McCampbell led SCU with four kills, while Mercedes Ewing also recorded four kills.

Hulme added two kills and three digs, while Castrillon contributed two kills and two block assists. Emma Hall recorded nine assists and six digs, and Ana Turone led the Eagles with nine digs.

Nelson recorded 45 kills and hit .394 for the match, while SCU finished with a .021 hitting percentage.

Following the weekend, Southwestern Christian moved to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

The Eagles will look to regroup and continue their season as conference play continues.
