OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Southwestern Christian University volleyball battled through five sets Friday afternoon, defeating Langston University, 3-2, at Pickens-Springer.
The Eagles opened the match strong, taking the first set 25-19. Langston answered with a 27-25 victory in the second set, but SCU responded in dominant fashion in the third, winning 25-15.
Langston forced a decisive fifth set after taking the fourth, 25-18. In the final set, the Eagles held on for a thrilling 19-17 victory to secure the match.
Emery Hulme led the Eagles offensively with 17 kills on 42 attacks while adding 13 digs. Jovana Perovic contributed nine kills and hit .280 for the match, while Mercedes Ewing added nine kills and five block assists.
Karen Jimenez recorded eight kills, four service aces and 14 digs. Sara Castrillon added seven kills and six block assists, while Ana Turone led SCU defensively with 24 digs.
Ava Burns directed the offense with 17 assists, while Emma Hall added 26 assists.
With the victory, SCU improves to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Eagles will look to build on the momentum from Friday's hard-fought victory in their upcoming matches.
