However, OCU responded with a decisive four-run third inning, powered by a three-run home run that shifted the momentum. SCU answered with a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-5 after Braden Browning drove in a run.
Despite multiple opportunities late, the Eagles were unable to push across the tying run. Eliam Dudamel and Elvis Rojas each recorded multi-hit performances in the loss.
Game 2: OCU 5, SCU 3 (10 innings)
Game two turned into a pitching duel that extended into extra innings. OCU jumped ahead early with two runs in the first, but SCU clawed back in the fourth inning, capitalizing on defensive errors to score twice and make it 3-2.
In the fifth, the Eagles tied the game at 3-3 after working multiple walks and pushing a run across. Starting pitcher Mozart Duarte kept SCU in the game with a strong outing, allowing just three runs over eight innings.
The game remained tied through nine innings before OCU broke through in the 10th with two runs. SCU threatened in the bottom half but couldn't complete the comeback, stranding key runners late.
Game 3: OCU 12, SCU 11
The series finale was an offensive battle from start to finish. SCU struck first in a big way as Dario Paredes launched a three-run home run in the opening inning.
The Eagles continued to answer every OCU rally, with contributions across the lineup, including RBIs from Aiden O'Malley, Phoenix Nelson, and Elvis Rojas. SCU surged ahead in the eighth inning, scoring four runs to take an 11-10 lead in a chaotic frame filled with walks and timely hitting.
But OCU had the final response, scoring twice in the ninth to reclaim a 12-11 lead. SCU was unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning, sealing a heartbreaking one-run loss.
Despite the sweep, SCU showed fight in all three games, losing by a combined four runs. The Eagles will look to build on their offensive production as they move forward in the season.
