Southwestern Christian Opens 2026 With Doubleheader Sweep

Game 1: Southwestern Christian 6, Bethany 1

Southwestern Christian opened the 2026 season with a complete performance, defeating Bethany College 6–1 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.

The Eagles were led by a dominant start from E. Cuevas, who earned the win after five shutout innings. Cuevas allowed just one hit while striking out 10, keeping Bethany off balance throughout his outing.

After three scoreless innings, SCU broke through in the fourth when E. Rojas delivered an inside-the-park home run, driving in two runs to give the Eagles momentum. Southwestern Christian added two more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI groundout from R. Florenzan and an RBI single from D. Paredes.

The Eagles closed out the scoring in the sixth with RBIs from B. Browning and N. Anderson. Paredes finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Rojas recorded two hits and two RBIs. M. Duarte pitched the final two innings in relief to secure the season-opening win.


Game 2: Southwestern Christian 13, Bethany 6

Southwestern Christian's offense erupted in game two, as the Eagles scored 13 runs on 11 hits to complete the doubleheader sweep with a 13–6 victory over Bethany.

After trailing early, SCU responded with a three-run third inning and took control in the fourth by scoring five runs. R. Florenzan led the Eagles offensively, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while A. O'Malley reached base consistently and scored three runs.

The Eagles continued to add pressure in the sixth inning, plating five more runs to put the game out of reach. E. Rojas scored three times and reached base multiple times, while B. Melo drove in three runs from the shortstop position. Southwestern Christian also showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks in the contest.

On the mound, R. DePaula earned the win after striking out six in four innings of work. F. Morel and J. Hogan combined to close out the final three innings and preserve the victory.

With strong pitching and consistent offensive production throughout the lineup, Southwestern Christian opened the season 2–0 with an impressive doubleheader sweep of Bethany.
