WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern Christian women's soccer remained unbeaten to start the 2025 season, earning a 2-1 victory over Southwestern University on Monday afternoon.
The Eagles struck early when Sofia Ovando netted her second goal of the season in the 9th minute. SCU added to their lead in the second half as Shosona Graham came to score in the 63rd minute, pushing the advantage to 2-0.
Southwestern cut the deficit in the 77th minute with a goal from Natalie Belanger, but the Eagles' defense, anchored by goalkeeper Lorelai Puglisi with two saves, held firm to secure the win.
SCU outshot Southwestern 12-6, with a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. The result moves the Eagles to 2-0-1 on the season, while Southwestern drops to 0-1.
Southwestern Christian will look to carry its momentum into the next match as the Eagles continue their strong start to 2025.
