Bethany, Okla. — August 23, 2025 — Southwestern Christian University's women's soccer team opened the 2025 season in dominant fashion, earning a 7–2 victory over University of the Southwest on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles wasted no time setting the tone. Senior forward Abbigail Johnson delivered a standout performance, recording four goals and one assist, including two successful penalty kicks. Riley Stanfill added two goals, while Monse Villacres scored her first of the season to round out SCU's offensive showcase.
The Eagles controlled possession throughout the match, outshooting Southwest 16–6. Goalkeeper Lorelai Puglisi anchored the defense with two saves, keeping SCU in control from start to finish.
Southwest managed goals in the second half from Eliza Lopez and G. Villa, but the Lady Eagles' relentless attack proved too much.
With the win, Southwestern Christian improves to 1–0 and looks ahead to continuing its momentum as the season progresses.
