Kansas City, Mo. – May 19, 2025 — Despite a spirited offensive showing and a late-inning surge, Southwestern Christian University (33-18) came up just short in a 10-9 extra-inning heartbreaker against Arlington Baptist (37-15) at Motley Field.
The Eagles jumped ahead early with a sacrifice fly from J. Boone in the first inning, but Arlington responded with four runs in the bottom half. Southwestern stormed back in the third, scoring five runs fueled by timely hits from G. Berroa and M. Gagnon, who drove in two runs with a double down the right-field line.
Southwestern's bats stayed alive through the eighth, adding three more runs to take a 9-5 lead. J. Cox and B. Browning each delivered RBI singles, and M. Gagnon added his third RBI of the day with a bases-loaded walk.
However, Arlington Baptist mounted a comeback of their own, scoring four in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. In the 10th, Arlington completed the comeback with a walk-off single by N. Duvall.
Despite the loss, the Eagles tallied 13 hits and 11 walks, showcasing a balanced offense. J. Cox and J. Thornton each collected three hits, and G. Berroa added a double and two RBIs. K. Aytes delivered a strong relief performance with six innings of work but was ultimately let down by a late bullpen collapse.
Southwestern Christian will look to regroup after the narrow defeat, having demonstrated plenty of fight in a game packed with momentum swings.
