In a nerve-wracking conference battle held at Abe Lemons Gym on January 30, 2025, the Southwestern Christian University Eagles were narrowly defeated by the Ozarks Bobcats with a final scoreline of 76-77. Despite a strong comeback in the second half, the Eagles could not overturn the halftime deficit and succumbed by just one point.
The Eagles trailed at halftime with a score of 33-41, struggling to keep pace with the Bobcats' sharp shooting. However, their resolve in the second half saw them nearly bridging this gap, in large part due to stellar performances from their top scorers.
Deondre Dunn led the SCU Eagles with an impressive 25 points, closely followed by
Ahmad Kennedy, who contributed 18 points. Supporting well were
George McCurdy and
Kolby Vestal, adding 12 and 11 points respectively to the scoreboard.
Notably, the Eagles' defense had moments of brilliance, as illustrated by
George McCurdy's three steals and
Ahmad Kennedy's three assists, which helped keep the game competitive until the final buzzer. Despite these efforts, Ozarks' Garrett Snyder posed a significant challenge, racking up 24 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, proving pivotal in his team's victory.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face off against John Brown University at their next challenging outing scheduled in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. With a current record of 4-17 in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC), the Eagles are eager to turn their fortunes around as the season progresses.
