The 2023 - 2024 season came to an end for the Eagles today, culminating in a 76 - 65 victory over the #2 seed Mission University Lady Patriots in the National Christian College Athletics Association tournament. Southwestern Christian was ranked #5 in the tournament, and completed the upset to end the season with a bang.
Â
After going into the half behind, Southwestern Christian stepped on the gas and overcame the points deficit in the second half. The key to SCU's success was their physicality in the paint, where they dominated the rebound game and put up 47 of their 76 points. Kennedy Allison lit up the scoreboard with 18 points, leading both teams going 7-11 from the field, and bringing in five rebounds. Lauren Wade was excellent in her time on the floor, nabbing five rebounds of her own and posting 15 points on 5-8 shooting, plus a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Jayden Mason and Tresha Yager both put up 11 points, with Yager nailing three 3-pointers, and Mason hauling in 9 rebounds, only missing a double-double by one rebound. Delaney Reimer put up ten points with 7 assists, and MJ Case knocked down four field goals and a free throw for her total of nine points. In a fitting end to the year, SCU's final win was a team effort, where the team got production from starters and bench alike, moving the ball effectively and opening up a Mission University defense that was simply overwhelmed in the second half.
