Bethany, Okla. - Southwestern Christian was host to the NCCAA Central Region Championship Game today, taking on fellow Sooner Athletic Conference member Wayland Baptist University for the right to appear in the NCCAA National Championship tournament. After a closely-contested game, it would be Wayland Baptist who walked away as champions.
The two teams were evenly-matched through the first half of play, with the game tied at 0-0 going into the half. In shades of their earlier matchup this season, SCU took more than double Wayland's total shots by the end of the game, but were unable to overcome the Pioneers. This time, however, Jamol Williams of the Pioneers found a goal in the 72nd minute to put the Pioneers up with time winding down. Despite a valiant effort by the
Enzo Camps in front of the goal, the SCU offense was unable to pick up their goalkeeper and tie the game. Camps had five saves on the night, including an incredible string of three saves in a row, which helped keep SCU in the match until the very end. SCU's offense ran through
Andre Lopes, who took five total shots (2 on goal), and led the team in both categories.
Alvaro Sanchez had the only other shot on goal for the Eagles with his only attempt at the net.
