Bethany,OK.-- Southwestern Christian(19-9, 5-5 SAC) pulls the Upset in Day one of the series on a walk-off base hit in the ninth to secure the Game one victory over the #23 SAGU Lions, winning 5-4.
Southwestern Christian opened the scoring in the first inning off a
Dario Paredes single through the left side that scored
Draike Sparks from second to take the early lead at 1-0. The Lions would take the lead with two runs in the third to lead it 2-1. SAGU would add an insurance run in the fourth off a sac fly to advance the score to 3-1. The Eagles would cut into the lead in the fifth of a sac fly by
Dario Paredes to make it 3-2. Southwestern Christian would finally be able to take advantage of runners in scoring position in the eighth, when they would tie the game on
Draike Sparks single to center that would score Boone from third to make it a 3-3 ball game. SAGU would however respond with a run in the top of the ninth to retake the lead off a single through the right side to make it 4-3. The Eagles would respond in kind,
Phoenix Nelson would single up the middle with the game-tying run scoring from second, then two at-bats later with runners on first and second
Draike Sparks would come up big again for SCU, with a single up the middle scoring the runner from second to win the ball game at 5-4 over the #23 Nationally ranked Lions. A much needed win for Southwestern Christian and
Braden Corley threw the full nine innings to pick up his fourth win on the campaign and ended with 6 strikeouts and only giving up three earned runs.
